01/23/06

Crane Films' Just What I Needed DVD release is Thursday, Jan. 26, at 80's night at the Spanish Moon. The DVD includes a recut version of the film, extra interviews, a featurette on the music, and more. Also, check out the new trailers on their site for Dracula and Man of the Hour.

The first fight scene's finished. Not as complex as planned, but circumstances (rain, in particular) interfered. The rest will be at least as complex as planned, most likely even moreso.

Windows Media versions of the trailer and CGI reel will be online later this week. Yes, they're finally coming.

Shooting two of the Robin scenes Monday, the second fight scene Saturday, and another scene Sunday. Possibly another day or two of shooting in between.

Screencaps and photos online tonight.

12/29/05

Happy New Year everyone!

Side note, the Toxic Lipstick Productions site is partially online now. Just a placeholder index page, but it gives you an idea of what will be on it. Look for a lot of the sections and a finished banner to be online midweek.

12/29/05

Some site downtime later tonight as Lunarpages (the hosting company) upgrades their firewall. Expected to be approximately five minutes, at about 11:45 Pacific time. Less than 9 hours of downtime per year, great customer service, and a great price for the package, I highly recommend them.

The Toxic Lipstick Productions site will be online sometime soon after New Year's. The domain we'd been planning on has already been taken, deciding on what domain name will be used when it goes online.

12/26/05

And we're back...hello? HELLO! Is this thing on?

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, and Happy Festivus to everyone, or insert your own holiday greeting here. Hope everyone's having a good one, no matter what you're celebrating.

Filming at least three scenes this week. Photos from them before New Year's, possibly some screencaps from last week as well.

Links page has been updated.

12/23/05 (second update)

The blog has been updated, and comments on it have been disabled for the immediate future. See the latest entry for more details.

A Jason Todd Hush figure is now up on Ebay.

And we have one last Christmas gift for everyone before signing off until Monday.

12/23/05

Merry Christmas from the Batman Formulas cast and crew. And since we're fans of Alex Ross' work, we have a little something special to share.

Filmed two scenes tonight, more filming next week sometime. On schedule so far, maybe a little ahead.

More updates after

Christmas.

12/19/05 (second update)

There’s an excellent new blog from Brady Crane (co-director, Director of Photography, and responsible for the trailer’s filming and editing) now up, gives a great rundown on the overall history, what went into this so far, and the trailer and filming. By far the best entry up to now, go check it out.

New all-CGI teaser is online in the Video section. The camera is off for repairs, so footage can’t be pulled from the tapes until it gets back. A new full-length trailer will be online November 15. And if you don’t like the new teaser, your problem. We put it together in about an hour, burned it to a DVD with Just What I Needed, then ran it over to the premiere.

We’ve added a new weblog to the site. Site updates will still be kept here, but the blog will be a more relaxed, informal place for the cast and crew to write about what’s going on. There will probably be entries once or twice a week. I’ve already put up the first one, about Crane Films’ Just What I Needed.

Green Lantern: New Dawn has their teaser online now. A definite must-watch for any Green Lantern or DC Comics fans.

Filming will most likely start again after Halloween. Cost issues tied to Katrina, Just What I Needed, and the camera have pushed back when the camera will be ready. The weather will also be best for filming at that time, with temperatures and humidity well below what they are now, making it more comfortable for everyone.

A new trailer will probably be released in conjunction with Just What I Needed, Halloween weekend.

23 September 2005
New desktop wallpaper added to the Downloads section.

22 September 2005
(second update) Renderings of the finished Cave can be found on the Behind the Scenes page.

22 September 2005
First there was Katrina, now there is Rita. While the current track takes Hurricane Rita into the Houston area, the storm is so big that we will most likely be getting tropical storm-force winds (40+mph) for several hours continuously as it makes landfall. Most likely power will again be lost, because the power companies did not remove the dead branches that had not fallen, so Rita’s winds will knock them down. As of early this afternoon, rain bands are already coming over New Orleans, with predicted landfall sometime late Friday or early Saturday. So again, there may not be any further updates for the foreseeable future.

We have been featured in an article in the new Fan Films Quarterly magazine. You can order a copy of the magazine (color or black and white) here.

We will be doing another photo shoot in the near future, most likely towards the end of next week, circumstances permitting. Waiting for it to cool off somewhat before we do, the average daily high lately has been in the mid-90s.

16 September 2005
Information about auditions, magazine articles, photo shoots, estimated release, and the second trailer coming soon, most likely by the end of the month at latest.

More CGI test renderings (Daily Planet and the still-being-built Cave) have been added to the Behind the Scenes page.

Finally, Crane Films has been given the rights to use music from The Pretentious, Cock Sparrer, Torrent Vaccine, and Macrosick for Just What I Needed. And for any Myspace users, you can now add Just What I Needed.

07 September 2005
CGI test renderings have been added to the Behind the Scenes page, and older reference images on it have been removed to make it load faster.

Due to Hurricane Katrina, Crane Films has pushed back the release of Just What I Needed to October 29. More information available on their site.

05 September 2005
Morgan Freeman (Lucius Fox in Batman Begins) has put up an action figure, poster, and script signed by him for auction to raise money for Katrina relief.

CGI work for a few shots in the film is in progress, initial renderings will be put up soon. To be clear, at least 90% of the film will be shot on location. There’s just some things we can’t do, and if the CG doesn’t look right it won’t be used because it won’t be absolutely critical shots.

Happy Labor Day, everyone.

02 September 2005
Just got power back late this afternoon. As has been widely reported, New Orleans has essentially been wiped out, and rebuilding will not start for a minimum of two months. As we are located in south Louisiana, this is a very personal crisis for us. All of us urge you to help those in need however possible.

July news moved to the Archive.

28 August 2005
Last update for the foreseeable future. Hurricane Katrina is on track to make landfall sometime Monday, and the area is expected to lose power for up to two weeks. Updates will be posted whenever possible, though it may be a while.

Best guess is auditions will be held Sunday, September 11, we’re still trying to get confirmation and approval. Information will be posted as soon as possible, check here and Crane Films for any updates.

24 August 2005
To all the Comics2Film.com visitors, welcome. The site’s under constant construction, so it’s constantly getting updated.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t planning for the bandwidth spike, so I almost had to take the trailer down for the rest of the month (80% of the monthly bandwidth allowance was used in under a week). Thanks to Paul, the Brotherhood of the Bat webmaster, for hosting it on his site to allow it to stay online. The link to the trailer on the Video page has been updated.

22 August 2005
Close to locking down a date, time, and location for the auditions. Casting information coming soon.

Camera problems are close to being resolved. Filming should restart sometime in the next couple of weeks, and hopefully the weather will be cooler by the time we start shooting again.

Also, Crane Films has announced when the premiere screening for Just What I Needed, one of their other projects, will be. Visit their site or the Just What I Needed minisite for more information and teasers. Look for the final trailer on their site sometime this week.

11 August 2005
Recent computer problems resulted in the loss of all emails from June, July, and the first week of August. If you emailed us about the auditions and have not received a reply, please resend it.

10 August 2005
Camera problems have delayed filming indefinitely. Hopefully the issues with it will be resolved shortly.

Check out the teaser for Crane Films’ latest project, it went online at midnight.

17 July 2005
Auditions for Joker, Harley Quinn, Superman, and other parts will be held sometime in August, most likely the Saturday the 13th. More information available in the near future.

Targeted release date is the weekend of October 22, just before the Batman Begins DVD release and a little over a week before Halloween.

Batman: Black and White shorts will most likely be filmed while Formulas is being filmed, or shortly after. If some are ready in time, they will most likely be included on the DVD. More project announcements coming soon.

14 July 2005

Header banners on every page changed.

05 July 2005

The convention we were planning on showing the finished movie at has not returned our emails and apparently has no interest in showing it, so we will hold the premiere on our own.

Website note: today is the one year anniversary of the site going online, and in that time we have received well over 13,000 hits.

24 June 2005
One of the cowls is now up on Ebay. Auction ends Monday afternoon.

21 June 2005
Shooting has begun, most or all of the solo Batman scenes will be shot this weekend. DVD extras are being planned and filmed. Rotating banners added to this page; Javascript is being used, so if firewalls are up they may not show.

15 May 2005
The corrected version of the trailer is online in the Video section. Mobicon summary and trailer reviews coming soon.

13 May 2005
The new trailer is online in the Video section. You may have to have Quicktime 7 to get it to play correctly. Apple hasn't released it for PC yet, but rumor is they're going to soon. It works in Quicktime 6, but it shows up a lot darker than it should; that's apparently because version 6 doesn't have the right codec. It may get uploaded in another format so Windows Media Player can play it or using a different codec so it looks right, but I can't guarantee that. Anything about that or file changes will be posted as an update on Crane Films; I will be out of town until sometime Sunday so I probably won't be able to change it on this site or post updates about it.

12 May 2005
It’s coming…the trailer will be online within the next 24 hours, either on here or Crane Films. I’ll be heading to Mobicon sometime tomorrow, so the link on here may have to wait until Sunday. If there’s no updates on here tomorrow, check Crane Films, it’ll be on there. More than likely it’ll be posted and linked to on both sites.

The Crane Films mini-site has been updated and now includes an interview we did a while back.

Update to the Behind the Scenes page with photos of the new work-in-progress chest emblem sculpt. A new hero suit is going to be used for parts of the movie, but the overall look is the same. New armor, new belt, new chest emblem, and new cape, but it’s just detail changes. The old suit is still going to be used, just as the stunt suit. By my calculations I’ve spent over 80 hours in it since Halloween 2003, probably more than almost anyone else, so it’s gotten a little worn out.

08 May 2005
Extra filming to flesh out the trailer was done on the 5th, recording the voiceover part within the next couple of days. Screenshots of the trailer soon, and the completed trailer by the end of the week, possibly as early as Tuesday or Wednesday. New posters by the end of the week.

01 May 2005
Probably more filming this week, specifically parts that will be used in the trailer for Mobicon. The trailer will be online as soon as possible, hopefully before Mobicon. New posters and an update to the Behind the Scenes page coming in the next few days.

28 April 2005
Production meeting was tonight, still working out a shooting schedule. Most filming will probably take place after Mobicon because of scheduling conflicts.

We did a photo shoot after the meeting using the new cowl. The new photos are now online in the Preproduction Gallery. New posters soon.

27 April 2005
Production meeting Thursday to work out a rough shooting schedule, among other things. Teaser will hopefully be online by the 30th, no guarantees.

20 April 2005
Behind the Scenes page updated with photos of the finished cowl. Production meeting sometime this weekend, and possibly a photo shoot using the new cowl.

17 April 2005
Crane Films will be handling the filming and editing of Batman: Formulas. Their previous credits include the award-winning Man of the Hour, Dracula, and numerous shorts. On a related note, they will be shooting Formulas in HD.

Cast and crew production meeting this week, with filming most likely during the week and this weekend. Cast, Behind the Scenes (Batsignal progress shots), and Links pages have been updated. Project Status on this page has been updated.

14 April 2005
Filming on the 12th went great, and the teaser will be online hopefully this weekend. Screenshots of it soon. The Behind the Scenes page has been updated with photos of the work-in-progress Batsignal and the concept for Robin’s suit. Cast and crew preproduction meeting on Sunday.

12 April 2005
Filming the teaser tonight on LSU’s campus. It should be up by the end of the week. Behind the Scenes page has been started, more to be added as production moves along.

07 April 2005
Weather (two strong storm systems spawning tornadoes) and schedule conflicts have forced filming of the teaser to be pushed back to sometime this weekend. It will be online by midweek at latest, with the bulk of filming to begin next weekend.
